Bosnia and Herzegovina is situated in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula. On the north, west and southwest, it borders the Republic of Croatia, and on the east and south, it borders the countries of Serbia and Montenegro. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a small exit to the sea, stretching over about 21 km long coastline, near Neum.
Administratively, Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (51%) and Republika Srpska (49%). The Federation of BiH further divides into 10 cantons which divide further into municipalities. Republika Srpska divides, administratively, into municipalities. The Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is organised under the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the territory of which is the shared property (condominium) of the Entities, is a unit of local self-governance with its own institutions, laws and regulations and with authorisations and status provided for by the final decisions of the Arbitrage Tribunal for dispute in connection with the inter-Entity demarcation line in the area of Brčko (Amendment I to the Constitution of BIH).
