BIH Judiciary Receives EUR 7.4 Million Budgetary Support

The document, relating to the Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance funds utilisation had been already signed by BIH Justice Minister Bariša Čilak and Finance Ministers of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BIH.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on budgetary support to the BIH judiciary, Ambassador Sorensen and President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council in BIH Mialroad Novković signed an Operative Memorandum.
“The implementation of the BIH-EU MoU is expected to accelerate the processing of war crime cases”, Minister Špirić said.
He specified that EUR 2,583,351 were allocated to judicial institutions at BIH level and to BIH Ministry of Justice, while EUR 2,195,844 would be earmarked to the Federation of BIH, EUR 2,502,520 to Republika Srpska, and EUR 156,285 to the Brčko District.
Ambassador Sorensen said it was the first tranche of planned total EUR 15 million for BIH judiciary support.
He confirmed that the EU recognised as a relevant matter a number of unprocessed war crime cases in BIH, and decided to assist BIH “to overcome its past and turn to the future”.
Novković emphasised that the MoU implementation will have a considerable impact to more effective processing of war crime cases in BIH, which is expected to end in seven years’ time.
