Hadžić: Safety Increase of Road Transport in BIH and Congestion Decrease is Priority of Ministry of Transport and Communications of BIH

Minister of Transport and Communications of BIH Damir Hadžić talked in Sarajevo today with Minister of Transport and Communications of FBIH Enver Bijedić, representatives of Public Company “Railways of FBIH” and representatives of “Association of Petroleum Products Traders in FBIH” on transport of petroleum products in the Federation of BIH during weekends and current issues of passenger railway transport in BIH.
Minister Hadžić said that the priority policy of the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BIH is an increase of safety on roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina has the highest death tool in traffic accidents in Europe and it has to address this issue. One among possible measures is to remove trucks form the highway roads during weekends in order to reduce congestions and disburden and maintain roads”, Minister Hadžić said. He stressed that the railways in BIH need to be reconstructed as soon as possible and technically capacitated to meet required technical standards and become competitive for a larger share in transport of goods.
Minister of Transport and Communications of FBIH Enver Bijedić said that the railway transport of petroleum products has a series of positive effects to society and state.
The position of the Association of Petroleum Products Traders in FBIH is that the way of transport should define the market, i.e. its competitiveness in terms of speed of transport, ecological standards and final fuel price.
A joint conclusion of the meeting today was that a working group needs to be formed as soon as possible to propose within 30-day time feasible solutions to increase of the safety level on roads in BIH.
Ministers Hadžić and Bijedić talked with representatives of the Railways of FBIH on changed conditions for railway passenger traffic on railway tracks of the “Croatian Railways”.
Minister Hadžić proposed introduction of railway line Bihać-Banja Luka – Sarajevo – Mostar and railway line Banja Luka – Sarajevo – Mostar.
“This would promote the tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, better connection of economic centres, while a costly train would be in use throughout the year”, Minister Hadžić stressed.
Ministers Hadžić and Bijedić requested from representatives of the Railways of FBIH to prepare an analysis of needs and economic justifiability of introduction this primary railway line for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
