Minister of Communications and Transport of BIH Damir Hadžić and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy of the Republic of Serbia Milutin Mrkonjić signed in Belgrade today an Agreement between the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Government of the Republic of Serbia An Agreement on Navigation on Internal Waterways and Its Technical Operation.

The Agreement refers the international waterways, Sava and Drina rivers, and it represents a basis for the establishment of the international river navigation on Sava River.

Other than navigation, the Agreement provides for technical maintenance including maintenance under investment projects. Each project requires signing of a protocol to be approved by the Council of Ministers of BIH and Government of the Republic of Serbia.

An important investment project is the rehabilitation and modernisation of the navigation waterway on Sava River, which involves Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Serbia and Republic of Croatia.

Within this project, Bosnia and Herzegovina cooperates with the Republic of Croatia in Sisak-Brčko waterway route, and with the republic of Serbia it is Brčko-Belgrade waterway route.

The European Union approved EUR 5.5 million for demining, environmental impact study and development of master project for the Brčko-Belgrade waterway project.

Ministers Hadžić and Mrkonjić also discussed the air space control over BIH skies, and concluded that there are no disputes in connection with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s intention to take over control over its air space.
