Directorate for European Integration

The Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established by the Law on the Council of Ministers of BiH ("Official Gazette of BiH", No. 38/2002 of December 18, 2002), with the task of coordinating the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s integration into the European Union. The Directorate took over the competencies of the former Ministry for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which had been established by the decision of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 22, 2000.

The Directorate for European Integration is responsible for:

• coordinating activities related to the harmonization of BiH legislation with EU accession standards (acquis communautaire),

• reviewing the alignment of all draft laws and regulations submitted to the Council of Ministers by ministries and administrative organizations with the directives of the “White Paper – Preparation of the Associated Countries of Central and Eastern Europe for Integration into the Internal Market of the Union”,

• coordinating the activities of bodies and institutions in BiH concerning necessary steps toward European integration,

• coordinating oversight of the implementation of decisions adopted by the competent authorities and institutions of BiH, its entities, and the Brčko District, in relation to all activities required for European integration,

• acting as the main operational partner of the European Commission institutions in the Stabilisation and Association Process,

• coordinating EU assistance.

The Directorate for European Integration also:

• acts as a technical-operational body for communication with the European Commission,

• participates in or drafts laws, other regulations, and guidelines related to the process of European integration.
