The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina is responsible for:

• The protection of international borders, internal border crossings, and regulation of traffic at the border crossings of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

• Preventing and detecting perpetrators of criminal acts such as terrorism, drug trafficking, counterfeiting of domestic and foreign currency, human trafficking, and other crimes with international or inter-entity elements;

• International cooperation in all areas within the competence of the Ministry.

The Ministry of Security is also responsible for:

• Protection of persons and facilities;

• Collecting and using data relevant to the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

• Organizing and coordinating the activities of entity Ministries of Interior and the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina in carrying out security tasks in the interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

• Implementing international obligations and cooperation in the field of civil protection, coordinating the activities of entity civil protection services in Bosnia and Herzegovina, aligning their plans in cases of natural or other disasters affecting the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and drafting programs and plans for protection and rescue.

The Ministry of Security also implements Bosnia and Herzegovina's immigration and asylum policy and regulates procedures related to the movement and stay of foreigners in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
