Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH and Minister of Finance and Treasury dr. Nikola Špirić and Manger of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development BIH Office Ian Brown signed in Banjaluka an Amendment of a Guarantee Contract for the construction of the Banjaluka – Doboj Motorway, worth EUR 35 million.
The basic Contract with the EBRD, was signed on April 2012, with the Public Company „Motorways of Republika Srpska“, as the borrower and with Government of Republika Srpska, as sub-guarantee, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is the guarantee of the Loan Contract.
„The value of the Basic Contract is EUR 150 million, and the project may be assessed as progressing smoothly, as it is currently in its final stage of implementation. About 50 per cent of works were completed to date. The additional EUR 35 million are intended for construction of the Prnjavor-Doboj 36.6 km long sub-section, including 22 km long local roads and for monitoring services“, Minister Špirić said following the singing of the Amendment Contract.
He added that BIH’s good cooperation with the EBRD is evidenced by the total approved EUR 1.6 billion through 116 projects, where about EUR 1.2 billion were implemented mostly in infrastructure, environmental and SMEs support projects
Manager Brown said that EBRD supports the development of the road sector and that these additional funds, provided for under the Amendment Contract, would enable Republika Srpska to use its own resources for some other projects, such as solving the land-property issues.
He reminded that this support was first launched by funding the Banjaluka-Gradiška motorway, followed by the Mahovljani loop, adding that the EBRD cooperates with the European Investment Bank, which funds the Western section of the motorway.
