Bevanda: To Create Better Environment for Private Sector Development

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Vjekoslav Bevnada received in Sarajevo a Delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti, with whom a EBRD strategy was discussed along with the current political developments, with a reflection to the economic trends in BIH, project implementation and EBRD investment programme for Western Balkans. 

Chairman Bevanda expressed his satisfaction with the previous cooperation with the EBRD, which is one among major institutional investors to BIH. He stressed that in the time period between 11996 to date a series of successful project were implemented in all sectors, most notable those realised in energy, transport and financial sectors, He fully endorsed a Draft EBRD Strategy, as well as to goals at which Bank will focus in the future period.

“We support restructuring and enhancement of local private sector, promotion of more effective and sustainable use of resources and creation of strong connections with wider regional markets. We are particularly happy with the fact that the new Strategy attaches more importance to providing a better business environment for private sector development”, Chairman Bevanda said at the meeting.

President Chakrbarti commended the strong cooperation of BIH and the EBRD, pointing that EUR 125 million worth investments were realised last year. He said that in the future period the investment-conductive environment in BIH needs to be improved.  He announced an investment conference for early next year.

Chairman Bevnada said in the coming period of time that he expects needed support in necessary reform implementation and economic betterment, and that the BIH’s strategic determination will be the creation of more favourable ambience for FDI implementation.

The meeting with the EBRD Delegation was attended by Deputy Chairman and Minister of finance and Treasury of BIH Nikala Špirić.
