Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Dr Denis Zvizdić met in New York with Manachem Rosensaft, Deputy Director of the World Jewish Congress. They discussed possibilities of cooperation of the World Jewish Congress and BIH, as well as on the importance of countering anti-Semitism, fascism and all forms of hatred, genocide and xenophobia. 

Zvizdić and Rosensaft agreed that the issue of genocide in BIH is extremely painful topic which requires to be treated in a proper way. In regard to that Chairman Zvizdić said that a transfer of knowledge and support to concept of memory culture would be necessary to secure in order to enable truth telling on events during the war in BIH.

Rosensaft emphasised that the World Jewish Congress fully understands events in Srebrenica, and said that the congress would help creation of a Memorial Site in Srebrenica. He wished to visit BIH and wished World Jewish Congress experts help by their suggestions in defining the memorial, in addition to discussing possible solutions to the issue of property restitution in BIH.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman Zvizdić presented to Menachen Rosensaft a copy of the Sarajevo Haggadah, saying that it represents an invaluable masterpiece of art, created in Spain in the 14th century, and that it find its place in het Sarajevo General Museum in 1894. “Haggadah has become a symbol of survival and persistence of the city, therefore it is so important to us”, Chairman Zvizdić said at the meeting.

The World Jewish Congress (WJC) is an international association representing Jewish communities and organisations in more than 100 countries of the world. The organisation was established in 1936 in Geneva, and its primary role is to advocate for rights of Jews and Jewish communities throughout the world.
