Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Dr Denis Zvizdić talked in Sarajevo with a delegation of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts (MICT), led by tis president Theodor Meron. 

Chairman Zvizdić thanked to president Meron for professional and correct work heading the Court, and on insisting on truth, as the basis of all processes.

“The truth is a sour, but sole remedy to come to the process of reconciliation and to bring to justice real criminals. I hope that the Balkans will once have its own Willy Brandt”, Chairman said at the meeting.

He emphasised that BIH has realised a high level of cooperation with the International Criminal Court for Former Yugoslavia, which resulted in bringing to justice of all individuals from the Hague List of Indicted

“The truth must remain the truth. Facing the truth, instead of redefining the history is rightly what takes us to a prosperous future”, Chairman Zvizdić said.

Speaking of the future priority actions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chairman Zvizdić said that they will be taken by way of processing war crimes files by competent courts, and through following the Strategy of  War Crimes Files Solving, with a special focus at the A list, i.e. processing of the most complex and priority war crimes files.

The MICT President Meron informed Chairman Zvizdić on soon termination of his mandate and announced the chairing the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts to be taken by judge Carmel Agius. He informed Chairman Zvizdić with plans of the Mechanism to set-up an activity group for the sake of increasing possibility of access to information on the Mechanism and ICTY heritage in the region.

During the meeting, Chairman Zvizdić and President of MICT Meron talked about the Mechanism assistance to judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina in respect to war crimes files, continuation of cooperation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Mechanism in order to secure accountability for war crimes at the national level, and to establish information centre o ICTY in ex-Yugoslavia states.
