Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Vjekoslav Bevanda received in Sarajevo today, in an introductory visit, Commander of NATO HQ in Sarajevo, Brigadier General Gary Huffman, with whom he discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards NATO.
Chairman Bevanda expressed a determination of BIH for NATO membership, which would benefit a long-term stability and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As priorities on that way, Chairman Bevanda stressed the solving of the issues of perspective immovable military property and provision of resources in the BIH Institutions Budget for further modernisation of the BIH Armed Forces under NATO standards.
Brigadier general Huffman express the support of NATO to BIH ambitions and expressed his pleasure with a recent decision of the Presidency of BIH on enhancing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s role in the ISAF Peace Keeping Mission in Afghanistan. He said that it is a strong message that BIH is sending to its NATO partners, because, in this way, Bosnia and Herzegovina has made a step forward from a country enjoying the support to a country actively contributing to global peace and stability building efforts.
A joint conclusion of Chairman Bevanda and Brigadier General Huffman is that the issue of perspective immovable property should be solved as soon as possible in order to make a necessary progress towards a full membership in the NATO. During the meeting, they discussed the issue of destruction of a part of ammunition and armament, and modalities of future cooperation of BIH institutions and NATO HQ in BIH.
