Chairman of the Council of Ministers of B-H Dr Nikola Špirić received the Director of the International Committee for Missing Persons (ICMP) Katrin Bumberger and Head of Mission of the International Committee of Red Cross in B-H Henry Furnier.

The meeting discussed the ways to overcome weaknesses in the operations of the Institute for Missing Persons, co-founded by the Council of Ministers of B-H and International Committee for Missing Persons.

Chairman Špirić pointed at the problem of political considerations within the Institute, referring to the latest example of a part of the Institution staff to organise self-initiatively an exhibition of mass graves in Bosnia and Herzegovina containing victims of only one side.

The meeting condemned the unilateral activity, which contravened the Rulebook of the Collegium of Directors, and underlined that the Institute Managing Board had to provide a response to that issue.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers also reflected on a need for solving the issue of the Institute managing structures, and mentioned that from the very point of establishing the Institute he was against the idea that persons who were exponents of certain political parties now hold the managerial positions in the Institute.

Chairman Špirić, in addition, pointed at the considerable number of associations gathering families of missing persons in Republika Srpska, expressing his dismay with the fact that Serb victims were discriminated against in the process of search for missing persons.

Špirić pointed out that only through a professional effort set free from politics the Institute could secure the respect and legitimacy from all the peoples.

Bomberg briefed about the ICMP activities on the Implementation of the Law on Missing Persons, with an emphasis on the establishment of the central data-base of the missing persons.

The meeting discussed a possibility of organising a regional conference, stressing the importance of the exchange of documentation pertaining to the fate and search for missing persons between countries of the region. (end)
