Zvizdić – Mijatović: To Develop Monitoring and Reporting System on Freedom of Media in BIH

Chairman of the Council of Ministers od BIH Dr Denis Zvizdić received in Sarajevo OSCE representative for freedom of media Dunja Miajtović, with whom he discussed the current political developments in BIH, with a focus to freedom of media. 

Chairman Zvizdić informed the OSCE representative that the Council of Ministers considered a report on cases of pressures and intimidation of media in BIH, and tasked the Ministry of Justice to develop legal regulations to ensure correct compliance, under BIH legislation, with the relevant international conventions in regard to protection of freedom of speech and opinion. At the same time, the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees is tasked to make an comprehensive information on the situation with the freedom of media in BIH in view of apparent pressures and intimidation of media, as a follow-up of conclusion of the House of Representatives of the BIH Parliamentarian Assembly as at January 15, 12015.

The OSCE representative for freedom of media expressed her pleasure for BIH institutions got included into  this issue. She said that it is very important for these cases to be sanctioned and condemned by the highest levels of authority.

Chairman Zvizdić said Bosnia and Herzegovina must develop a systematic approach to monitoring and reporting of cases of attacks and intimidation of media, seeking OSCE backing for implantation of this project. Announcing support to such project Mijatović underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina may count on a full support of by office in development of monitoring and reporting methodology and system.

They agreed that the process of digitalisation needs to accelerate so that BIH would not remain as the only country on analogue broadcasting system.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BIH Semiha Borovac.
