The Ministry is responsible for: citizenship affairs, registration and records of citizens, personal data protection, registration of permanent and temporary residence, identity documents, travel documents, vehicle registration procedures, and demining.

It is also responsible for performing tasks and executing duties within the competence of Bosnia and Herzegovina related to establishing basic principles for coordinating activities, harmonizing plans of entity authorities, and defining strategy at the international level in the fields of: health and social protection, pensions, science and education, labor and employment, culture and sports, as well as geodetic, geological, and meteorological affairs.
