The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is competent for the following:
Enforcement of the established policy of BiH and development of international relations in line with views and guidelines of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
Proposition of standpoints on issues of interest to foreign policy activities and international status of BiH;
Representation of BiH in diplomatic relations with other countries and international organisations, at international conferences and in direct communication with diplomatic agencies and offices of international organisations in BiH;
Monitoring and development of international relations of BiH with other countries, international organisations and other entities of international law and international relations and reporting thereof to the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (hereinafter: Council of Ministers);
Submission of proposals to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina on establishment or suspension of diplomatic or consular relations with other countries; Collaboration with international organisations, membership proposals to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, proposals of participation of BiH in the operations of international organisations;
Organisation, guidance and co-ordination of operations of diplomatic and consular offices of BiH abroad;
Preparation and organisation of international visits and meetings;
Preparation of bilateral and multilateral agreements;
Activities in relation to protection of rights and interests of the BiH citizens permanently or temporarily residing abroad as well as of rights and interests of BiH legal entities abroad;
In collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions, monitoring international economic trends and relations and informing relevant authorities thereof as well as of economic relations of BiH with specific countries and regions;
Promotion, development and co-ordination of co-operation with the BiH Diaspora;
Preparation of documentation, analysis, information and other materials for the needs of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Council of Ministers and other authorities in the field of foreign policy.
